A disk may be inserted at any time, and Scan will recognize that disk and display its name under the Eject and Check menus. If an unformatted or badly damaged disk is inserted (or a double sided disk is inserted into s single sided drive), a dialog box will be displayed asking if you wish the disk initialized or ejected. If you select Eject, the disk will be ejected and Scan will wait for your next selection or disk insertion. If you wish the disk to be initialized, Scan will initialize it, then check the minimal disk structure which results. Certain hard disks, such as the Hyperdrive, are inserted via desk accessories. Some of these do not signal the Macintosh operating system of their existence in a manner Scan is accustomed to. As a result, Scan will not detect their presence if they are mounted while Scan is running. In order to be certain that all disks are recognized, simply type the Return key, and Scan will check all mounted volumes to see if any additional ones have appeared recently.
